We are releasing a feature in File DLP that determines the owner of files/folders as a new sharing scope.
Previously, File DLP used only the users shared with, excluding the owner, as the criteria for determining sharing. Therefore, even if an external user was the owner of a file/folder, it was determined as "Internal Sharing" if the users shared with were only internal users.
After the release of this feature, if the owner of a file/folder is an external user, it will be improved to be determined as "External Sharing." Additionally, new filter conditions and risk detection conditions will be available.
With this release, depending on your service usage, the count of "External Sharing" on the dashboard is expected to increase if the owner is an external user.
Main Changes
Addition of Sharing Scope "External - External User as Owner"
In the "file list," the "Sharing Scope" condition will have "External - External User as Owner" added when using the filter.
Addition of New Risk Detection Conditions
In the "Risk Detection Policy List," the following risk detection conditions will be added, with the condition that the owner is external.
Google Workspace: When files/folders are uploaded by an external user in Google Drive
Microsoft 365: When files/folders are uploaded by an external user in OneDrive
Improvement of Sharing Scope to "External Sharing" for Files/Folders Owned by External Users
For existing folders/files owned by external users, the sharing state will be gradually improved from "Internal Sharing" to "External Sharing."
With this improvement, files/folders owned by external users that were previously counted as "Internal Sharing" on the dashboard will be re-evaluated as "External Sharing" gradually.
