Question
Emails in Outlook are displaying garbled characters. What could be the possible reasons for this?
Answer
Garbled characters may appear if the character encoding declared in the email differs from the actual character encoding used in the content.
The system displays the email body based on the character encoding declared in the email. Therefore, if the above situation occurs, the email may be displayed with garbled characters.
Outlook Settings
- From the File menu, click Options to open the "Outlook Options" dialog.
- From the menu on the left, click Advanced.
- Under International options, uncheck Auto-select encoding for outgoing messages, and in Preferred encoding for outgoing messages, select Unicode (UTF-8).
