Question
I have some questions regarding migrating from Email Archive Classic to Modern.
Answer
Frequently asked questions about migrating from Email Archive Classic to Modern are as follows.
How long can I continue to use the Classic version?
You can use it until September 30, 2026.
Even after completing the initial setup of the Modern version, you can use both the Classic and Modern versions in parallel until September 30, 2026.

What happens if I do not complete the migration to the Modern version by the end of Classic service on September 30, 2026?
After October 1, 2026, you will no longer be able to access the Classic version (https://console.hdems.com/).
After the end of Classic service, you will not be able to view or migrate Classic version configuration data (such as User Settings and Search Policy Settings).
If the initial administrator setup for the Modern version is not completed by the end of Classic service, our support team will need to perform the initial administrator setup for the Modern version.
It may take some time before you can start using the service, so we recommend migrating to the Modern version as early as possible.
Will the Classic version become unavailable once I start using the Modern version?
No, starting to use the Modern version will not affect your Classic version data or settings in any way. You can continue to use the Classic version until September 30, 2026, even after you have started using the Modern version.
Can I migrate users from the Classic version to the Modern version?
Please use the bulk migration tool for Users and Search Policies from the Classic version.

What are the differences between the Classic and Modern versions?
To make Email Archive more convenient, the Modern version is provided as a major renewal. The Modern version improves the searchability of archived emails, enhances the usability of various settings, and supports Microsoft / Google Workspace OIDC authentication. In addition, new features such as "Bulk Email Export" are available only in the Modern version.
There are some detailed differences in operation compared to the Classic version. For more information, please refer to the articles below.

Are there any requirements for the account used to log in to the Modern version?
The Modern version uses OIDC authentication, so the login account must be an email address belonging to the IdP (Google/Microsoft tenant).
Can I make the Classic version unavailable before September 30, 2026?
Yes, you can. Please use the stop function for Email Archive Classic from the Classic version. For details, please refer to the following help article.

Are there any settings that are automatically migrated from the Classic version to the Modern version?
The "Allowed Connection IP Addresses" (permitted access) are automatically carried over to the Modern version.
If you want to migrate "User Settings" and "Search Policy Settings" to the Modern version, please use the bulk migration feature.

* Since both the Modern and Classic versions provide services on a shared data storage area, migration will not affect stored emails.
I tried to log in to the Modern version but could not log in. What could be the cause?
Please refer to the following help article.

Will there be any impact on archived emails?
The migration from the Classic version to the Modern version only changes the management console. There is no impact on archived emails, so please rest assured.
Will there be any impact on the Operation Log?
The Operation Logs for the Classic and Modern versions are stored as separate logs in the system.
However, the CSV file output from the Modern version screen includes logs from the Classic version, so you can check them all together.
Classic version logs that can be referenced from the Modern version are scheduled to be deleted in bulk after October 2036.
If necessary, please keep the downloaded CSV files as a backup.

Are there any features available in the Classic version that are restricted in the Modern version?
In the Classic version, you could select from three download formats for archived data: "mbox," "Outlook PST," and "zip (eml format)." In the Modern version, only "zip (eml format)" is available.
Because "mbox" and "Outlook PST" formats combine multiple emails into a single file, there were issues in the Classic version where file generation could fail or system load could be affected when data size became large.
Considering that Microsoft's New Outlook now supports importing multiple eml files, the Modern version supports only the eml format to ensure stable service in the future.
